Socrates was still alive. Alive until the Delos offering ship returned
to Athinai. The priests crowned the stern of the ship the day
before Socrates’ trial. Already nearly a month passed since the
ship left with the thank offering to Apollo. Until the
ship returned to port, Athinai lived in a “holy season” where no
human life could be taken. Soon the ship would return, and
with it would come Socrates’ executioners.
